We investigated the clinical efficacy of cefluprenam (CFLP), a new cephalosporin, in 13 patients with otorhinolaryngological infections (6 cases of acute exacerbation of chronic otitis media, 1 case of acute sinusitis, 1 case of acute exacerbation of chronic sinusitis, 4 cases of acute tonsillitis and 1 case of acute lateral pharyngitis).CFLP was administered in a dose of 1 g, once or twice a day by drip infusion for 1 8 successive days.The clinical response was excellent in 4, good in 8 cases (excluded 1 patient).Acute exacerbation of chronic otitis media was excellent in 1 case and good in 5 cases.Acute sinusitis was good in 1 case.Acute exacerbation of chronic sinusitis was good in 1 case.Acute tonsillitis was excellent in 2 cases and good in 1 case.Acute lateral pharyngitis was excellent in 1 case.Conclusively, the clinical response rate was 100%(12/12).For bacteriological effects, the isolates were 4 strains of Staphylococcus aureus, 2 strains of Staphylococcus epidermidis, 1 strain of Staphylococcus capitis, 1 strain of Streptococcus pyogenes in gram-positives.2 strains of Haemophilus influenzae, 1 strain of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus in gram-negatives.2 strains of Eikenella corrodens in anaerobes. The eradication rate was 100%(13/13).<BR>No adverse reactions were observed.In laboratory findings, no abnormal changes were noticed.
