抄録

We studied the effect of balofloxacin (BLFX), a new oral quinolone derivative, on the serum concentration of theophylline (TP) in 5 healthy male volunteers.<BR>In advance, TP alone was given orally for four days at a daily dose of 400mg b. i. d., then the serum samples were obtained as a control. From the 5th day of TP administration, concomitant administration of BLFX at a daily dose of 200 mg b.i.d. was started.<BR>Blood was drawn on the 3rd and 5th days of concomitant administration, and the serum concentrations of TP were compared with those of the control.<BR>On the 3rd and 5th days of concomitant administration, no significant differences were observed in any pharmacokinetic parameters, including AUC, Cmax and Cl_TB, of TP. No objective or subjective side effects were observed throughout the experimental period.<BR>According to the above results, we concluded that BLFX is safe when administered concomitantly with TP.
