Abstract

532 days survival was obtained in a total artificial heart goat with 1/R control. The stable control could be continued over the course, regardless of the pump exchanges with thrombus formation inside the pumps and the anemia caused by the bleeding from the chest pressure necrotic wound. Findings over the course of the experiment showed no hemodynamic and metabolic abnormality. Autopsy findings showed macroscopically normal in the liver. On the other hand, interesting findings such that the cardiac output did not correlate with aortic pressure, but correlate with total conductance, and the inverse relation between cardiac output and hematocrit was found in the data from within two weeks after the surgery and two weeks after the bleeding, but there was no correlation between the cardiac output and hematocrit in the other days or total protein. In conclusion, the physiologic stability of 1/R control algorithm for extended period could be demonstrated in this study.
