Even in the recent years, the accurate timing system is the most important and effective tool for temporally aligned seismic observation. Nowadays, with the advance of the electric and electronic technology, we can purchase small GPS receiver board with very cheap price. Since the GPS receiver boards output precise timing pulse, we complete accurate standard clock for seismic observation using the GPS receiver boards.<br>At first, in order to check the performance of the GPS receiver boards (Magnavox, GPS Engine), we compare the timing pulse from the board and the atomic clock at the Mizusawa Kansoku Center National Astronomical Observatory. We find out that the precision of the timing pulse from the GPS receiver board is usually within 0.1 micro-seconds. The precision reduces up to 3 micro-seconds, when the number of available GPS satellites decreases. Even with worst precision, the timing pulse from the GPS receiver is enough accurate for correcting the clock for seismic observation. Using the GPS receiver board, we produce the standard clock for seismic observation. The 8-bit microcomputer, whose current consumption is very small, controls the GPS receiver board, displays current time and generates time codes. Considering that the GPS receiver consumes much current, the temperature compensated crystal oscillator is usually used for time base and corrected by the GPS receiver at proper time intervals. The accuracy of the standard clock is always within 2msec, and its current consumption is about 35mA. Its weight is about 1kg and its size is small. It is good for the field works.
