A new classification of esophagitis was presented in 1994, as Los-Angeles classification. We reviewed 1661 cases of esophasitis with Los-Angels calcification diagnosed by panendoscopy from 1986 to 1995 retrospectively. Each grade were as follows : Grade A ; 672 (40.4%), Grade B ; 608 (36.6%), Grade C ; 221 (13.3%), Grade D ; 91(5.5%). Sixty-nine cases (4.2%) were unable to classify. Each grade of esophagitis was compared with gender, age, symptoms, hiatal hernia, Barrett esophagus and peptic ulcer. Incidence was maximum in sixty years old male, otherwise stepwise elevation with ages was found in female esophagitis. Hiatus hernia was highly complication in Grade D. Grade C and D esophagitis were frequent in cases with hiatus hernia. Also in Barett esophagus, Grade C and D were the main esophagitis. The incidence of peptic ulcer was 13.5% in while esophagitis. Open duodenal ulcer was more frequently associated as grade of esophagitis.
