抄録

Weclinically evaluated the OPTIMA membraneoxy genator comparingit with the CAPIOX-SX. Data wasanalyzedin 18 adultpatients who underwentopen heartsurgery (OPTIMA=8 patients, CAPIOX-SX=10patients). The OPTIMA incorporatesanintegral heatexchanger and microporous, polypropylene hollow fibermembrane oxygenator, and hasarated blood flow of 0.5-8 liters perminute. The stimultaneousgas and heatexchange requiresapriming volume of only 260ml. Though the effective gasexchange surfacearea of 1.7m2 was small, the OPTIMA showed good oxygenandcarbondioxide transferrates. Both oxygenators hadalow priming volume, including that of the circuit, and both provedasimpletoset-up, prime, and operate. There were nostatistical differencesin hemocompatibility between the two types of oxygenatorsin terms of plasma free hemoglobin and platelet preservation ratio.The OPTIMA seemed to befavorable especiallyin caseofemergency since it was very easy to evacuate the airfrom the lung during the priming period.
