A semi-closed hemorrhoidectomy sewed up to the anal verge and a completely closed hemorrhoidectomy sewed up to the drainage wound were compared clinically. The semi-closed hemorrhoidectomy was per-formed with 30 patients (18 males and 12 females, mean age of 51.2 years), and the completely closed one was performed with 30 patients (17 males and 13 females, mean age of 53.8 years).
Regarding operative results, the differences of the painful time intervals after surgery between both groups were not significant. The healing time intervals of the completely closed group (25.9 days) was signifi-cantly shorter than that of the semi-closed group (31.4 days). Furthermore, the healing time intervals of the completely closed group was significantly shorter in male over 50 years. In the postoperative complication, there were no hemorrhage and wound infection in both groups. Skin tags occured in 4 patients (13 %) in the semi-closed group, and 7 patients (23 %) in the completely closed group.
The completely closed hemorrhoidectomy was useful for shorting a healing time intervals in male over 50 years.
