A model was developed to predict the respiration rate of young soybeans stored under differing temperatures and O2 concentrations. Respiration rates were measured at three temperatures (10, 15 and 20°C) and four O2 concentrations (1.5, 4, 9 and 20%). The data obtained showed good fit with the recently proposed Michaelis-Menten type respiration model as a function of O2 concentration. It was confirmed that the temperature dependence of estimated kinetic constant Km and Vmax follow the Arrhenius relationship, we have succeeded in extending this model to describe the effect of temperature on the respiration rate of young soybeans.
