Gas permeability of SiC/SiC composite materials, which is one of the most important properties in application of SiC/ SiC composite for first wall and blanket of fusion reactors, was measured by using a vacuum apparatus. The cylindrical SiC/SiC composite specimens were prepared by three different processes. The measurement on permeability for three materials was carried out with helium gas pressure ranging from 10<SUP>2</SUP>to 10<SUP>5</SUP> Pa at room temperature.<BR>The pressure in bottom chamber down stream of specimens increased with the helium gas pressure within the applied pressure range. The helium gas flow through the material is regarded as molecular flow. The material made by PIP method showed the highest permeability. The lowest permeability was observed in the one made by PIP followed by RS method. The material, SA-TyrannoHex<SUP>TM</SUP> made by hot pressing was in the second position. The difference of the permeability can be related with the macroscopic structure represented by pores and cracks.
