Abstract
A case of von Recklinghausen's disease (VRD) associated with cancer of the ascending colon is reported. A 51-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of injury to his face.<br> He was found to have VRD. Close examination revealed that the value of CEA was slightly high. Colon fiberscopy revealed ascending colon cancer and a right hemicolectomy was performed. Neurogenic tumors such as neurofibrosarcoma are known to occur frequently in patients with VRD. But, the concurrence of epidermal cancer like in this case is relatively rare. The etiologic relationship between VRD and epidermal cancer had not been elucidated. This is an issue demanding further studies in a large number of cases.
