We report a case of heterochronous triple cancer of the lung, colon, and prostate in an 81-year-old man. In September, 1988, an abnormal shadow was detected in the righ upper lung field at a medical checkout health examination. A diagnosis of lung cancer was made by a bronchoscopy, and a right upper lobectomy was performed. The tumor was histologically squamous cell carcinoma. In July, 1991, he was seen at the hospital because of abdominal pain. Barium enema revealed an apple core sign in the ascending colon, and he underwent a right hemicolectomy under a diagnosis of colon cancer. The histological diagnosis was mucinous adenocarcinoma. In December, 1997, he was seen at our outpatient clinic because of frequent urination, and a close examination revealed prostatic cancer. Biopsy demon-strated well-differentiated adenocarcisnoma. The prostatic cancer has been treated by hormone therapy for about 3 years, and he has been leading a normal social life. Prostatic cancer tends to manifest few symptoms, so that it is often detected by autopsy as one of multiple malignant lesions in a high frequency. When prostatic cancer is detected, the possibility of multiple cancer should be considered.
