抄録

  The heat flow in a mold withdrawal type unidirectional solidification was analyzed by using a two-dimensional transient model with the purpose of understanding of effects of thermal variables. When the withdrawal velocity of mold was slow, the solidification front was convex, and when the velocity high, it became concave. The temperature gradient in the liquid ahead of the solid-liquid interface increased in proportion to the heating temperature of mold. When the heating temperature was extremely high, the position of solidification front deviated toward the outside of the furnace. The same tendency was observed with high withdrawal velocity and at enlarged sections of the castings. When the solidification front was outside the furnace, the temperature gradient decreased. The range of effective cooling by the chill-plate was only 6cm in height.
