抄録

A case of esophageal hemangioma is reported with a review of the literature. A 64-year-old man had no subjective symptoms, but endoscopic examination for screening revealed a 2cm elevated tumor, pale in appearance about 26cm from the incisors. A barium swallow study showed a well-circumscribed oval defect in the upper part of the esophagus. On the T1-weighed MR image, the tumor was visualized as iso intense mass compared with muscle tissue, and on the T2-weighed MR image, it was visualized as very hyper intense mass. Enuculation of the tumor was performed, and it was diagnosed histologically as cavernous hemangioma. It has been believed that esophageal hemangioma is very rare so far. The widespread use of endoscopy, however, will increase chances of encounter such cases. This paper also presents a review of the relevant literature in Japan.
