Abstract

We experienced 2 cases of splenic lymphangioma. Case 1 was a 73-year-old woman. Incidental sonography after oophorectomy for an ovarian cyst revealed a splenic tumor. Splenectomy was carried out, because we could not rule out probable malignant tumor such as metastasis from the ovarian carcinoma. Histological diagnosis was splenic lymphangioma. Case 2 was a 61-year-old woman. She was pointed out her liver dysfunction on a health screening. Sonography revealed fatty liver, gallstone and splenic tumor. An increase in size of the tumor was confirmed at 3 months interval. Splenectomy was performed. The diagnosis lymphagioma was made histologicaly. <br> So far, about 60 cases of splenic lymphagioma have been reported in Japan. The frequency of asymptomatic cases which are incidentally detected by imagings has increased recently. We discussed about the operative indication for such cases. It is concluded that a typical case with accurate imaging diagnosis can be observed without surgery, but in many actual cases which present difficulty in preoperative diagnosis splenectomy would be a choice of treatment like these cases.
