抄録

A 51-year-old man underwent a close examination for an increased CEA level. Calcitonin level was also high, so the recurrence of the medullary carcinoma of the thyroid (MCT) after the primary surgery 10 years before was suspected, but imaging methods failed to determine the site of recurrence. After about 3 year follow-up with periodical examinations, pentavalent, ^99mTc-DMSA scintigraphy showed the recurrent sites at the upper medistinum. Midsternal incision was made, and the tumor was extirpation. Histological findings revealed the recurrence of MCT.<br> CEA and carcitonin levels are very important for the diagnosis of recurrence of MCT. But even if CEA and carcinonin levels are high, the recurrent sites can not be confirmed in the most cases. In this paper we describe a case of recurrent MCT in which pentavalent ^99mTc-DMSA was very valuable in the diagnosis, together with a review of the literature.
