Malignant cystosarcoma phyllodes is a very rare disease with a low frequency of distal metastasis, because of its unfavoable prognosis. Blood-borne metastasis is the major form of metastasis and the lung and bone are the most common organs affected. Intestinal and lymphatic metastases as seen in this case are seldom observed. Duration until the recurrent metastasis is very short, mostly within 6 months. Therefore, most patient die within 6 months after the metastasis is found. A female patient presented here underwent a modified radical mastectomy for a malignant cystosarcoma phyllodes at the age of 57, and experienced bilateral lung metastases and multiple intestinal metastasis at the age of 61 after a disease-free interval for 4 years and 3 months.
By performing total of 5 surgeries including lung resection twice and intestinal resection three times, this patient is still alive for 4 years since the recurrent metastasis was admitted.
This case is reported with some discussion based on several references.
