Since 1987 we have employed our contrived new method for anastomosing a coronary arterial ostium to an artificial graft in Cabrol's operation which consists in use of a prosthetic graft with a Dacron collarette put around its proximal end for easy apposition and connection to the orifice of the coronary arterial ostum. Comparisons were made of the early and long-term results of the operation, the duration of operation and of cardioplumonary bypass (CPB) and intraoperative bleeding between 5 cases undergoing the operation by our modified procedure with a collarette vs. 1 case treated by the operation performed by the original procedure without a collarette. In 3 of the 5 cases having the operation performed with a collared prosthesis the postoperative course has been quite uneventful for 8 years and 9 months at the longest without the need for re-operation nor occurrence of pseudoaneurysm. The duration of operation and of CPB and intraoperative bleeding were 610±150 (mean±SD) min, 320±90 min and 2840±1420ml, respectively, with our modified method as against respective corresponding values of 810 min, 310 min and 5000 ml with the original method, hence no striking difference was observed between the two procedures in any of these parameters.
