Abstract

Primary malignant lymphoma of the small intestine is rare and it is very difficult to diagnose preoperatively. We have experienced two cases of primary malignant lymphoma of the ileum. In one case we could diganose preoperatively and in the other case an emergency operation was performed under a diagnosis of panperitonitis. Case 1: A 63-year-old female was seen at the hospital because of a right lower abdominal pain. Barium enema revealed a tumor of the terminal ileum. Biopy was done by a colonoscopy and it was diagnosed as primary malignant lymphoma. Case 2: a 71-year-old female underwent an emergency operation for panperitonitis and the mass with ulceration was found in the ileocecal junctions. Peritonitis was due to perforation of the ulcer. Histological diagnosis was mlignant lymphoma of the ileum. Primary malignant lymphoma of the small intestine can cause intussusception or perforation, and it is first diagnosed when an emergency laparotomy is carried out with a diagnosis of acute abdomen. This case which was successfully diagnosed preoperatively appears uncommon.
