Abstract

Cancer arising in aberrant breast tissue is rare. This papper presents a case of aberrant breast cancer with a review of 27 cases in the Japanese literature. A 34-year-old woman was seen at the hospital because of a left axillary lump. Examination revealed a firm, tenderly fixed mass to the covering skin, measuring 3.0×2.0cm, in diameter in the left axilla. The mass was thought to be an atheroma, because the accessary nipple was not detected. Biopsy of the axillary mass showed solid-tubular carcinoma, indicating that it originated from the heterotopic breast tissue. This was treated by local wide excision of the wound with the axillary fat and lymph nodes. Postoperatively, she received a course of radiotherapy and chemoendocrine therapy. In spite of many positive lymph nodes, she is alive with no evidence of recurrence three years after the operation.
