Recently we experienced a case of primary malignant lymphoma of the stomach in which a complete and spontaneous regression was confirmed by histopathological examination of surgically excised specimen in about one month after making the diagnosis. A 64-year-old woman has an epigastric pain in the middle of November, 1994. A photogastroscopic examination performed at another hospital on November 25 revealed a huge ulcer in the posterior wall of pyroric antrum which was diagnosed as malignant lymphoma of B cell origin. the patient was referred to the hospital for operation on December 12. In spite of no unti-ulcer treatments her ulcer rapidly diminished and biopsy showed no lymphoma cells. Based on histologic findings of the first biopsy, chest and abdominal CT and Ga-scintigraphy, the patient was diagnosed as having a primary malignant lymphoma and underwent a total gastrectomy on December 28. Minute histological exploration of the excised specimen by continuous sections revealed no lymphoma cells entirly. It was judged to be a spontaneous regression.<br> We think that such a case of malignant lymphoma as the tumor rapidly diminished in about one month and disappeared completely like this case is very rare. This paper also presents a review of the literature.
