Abstract

Leiomyoma of the small intestine is most common tumor in the small intestine. It is rare, however, that leiomyoma presenting with peritonitis or perforation. We report such a case, in a 49-year-old male. He was admitted to the hospital because of an acute abdominal pain. He was diagnosed as peritonitis by physical and laboratory findings. Antibiotic therapy was performed, because the peritonitis was localized, and an abscess was formed. Upper intestinal barium study disclosed an extravasation and a defect at the jejunum 20cm from the Treitz' ligament. The abscess was completely localized, and the inflammation was subsided in about one month after the conservative therapy. With a diagnosis of benign tumor, a partial resection of the jejunum including the tumor was performed with a minimum skin incision. His operation and postorerative course were satisfactory.<br> Microscopically it was perforation of the jejunal lelomyoma.
