A rare case enteric intussusception led by hererotopic pancreatic tissue in the ileum in an infant is reported. An one and a half year-old infant developed vomitting and bloody stool. Ileo-colic intussusception was reduced by barium enema at the pediatric clinic. Two days later symptoms recurred and was not relieved by barium enema. Laparotomy revealed enteric intussusception which was reduced and a mass, tip of thumb sized, was palpated in the ileum. A polypoid lesion was resected through incision of the ileum. Pathological examination disclosed that the mass was heterotopic pancreatic tissue (Heinrich II type lacking the Langerhans islands). Most cases of intussusception in infants are commonly idiopathic, but there are some cases of the disease which have a causative lesion like this case. So far about 60 cases have been seen in the Japanese literature. This paper describes the case with a review of the literature.
