Abstract
We successfully performed a breast conserving surgery for multicentric cancer of the unilateral mammary gland composed of rare histological types. A 44-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of a left breast tumor. The tumor was diagnosed as medullary carcinoma by an excisional biopsy. Breast conserving operation was performed but another malignant lesion with different histopathological component was found at the surgical margin, so it was also resected. Postoperative diagnosis of the second lesion was secretory carcinoma. This case of multicentric cancer of the unilateral mammary gland was rare in that it was composed of two uncommon histological types, namely, medullary and secretory carcinomas. Some notes on the indication of breast conserving operation are also presented here in terms of a review of the literature.
