抄録

A case of spontaneous pneumomediastinum caused by base ball vocal exercise in a senior high school is reported. A 15-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of cervical discomfort and pharyngeal pain after base ball exercise. A chest plain X-P and a chest CT showed typical pneumomediastinum. He recovered by conservative therapy within 10 days. Spontaneous pneumomediastinum which occurs frequently in young men is reratively rare and has a good prognosis. We discussed the character of this disease about 38 cases reported in the past 6 years. It is necessary to consider spontaneous pneumomediastinum, if the patient complaints chest pain and dyspnea, shows subcutaneous emphysema, and has some background factor causing an increase in the intrathoracic pressure at the onset of the symptoms.
