A 70-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of an esophageal tumor with dysphagia. Barium meals showed a well-circumscribed polypoid lesion about 2cm in diameter in the upper esophagus. Endoscopic examination revealed an elevated tumor covered with white coat. Endoscopic ultrasonography demonstrated a solid lesion with keeping proper muscle layer. The tumor was very bright on T2-weighted MR image and uniformly enhanced after intravenous injection of Gd-DTPA. The lesion was diagnosed histologically as capillary hemangioma by biopsied specimen. Endoscopic polypectomy was performed. The tumor 8×7×6mm in size was completely extripated and no postoperative bleeding occurred. Histologically it was esophageal capillary hemangioma.<br> Esophageal hemangiomas are rare and represent about 2-3% of all benign esophageal tumors. There have been only 73 reported cases in Japan till 1995. Of these 73 cases, this case was the 13th case undergoing endoscopic polypectomy. We think that endoscopic polypectomy must be the treatment of choice, if the esophageal hemangmoma is predunculated and small in size (less than 25mm).
