抄録

Retrospective study on 8 cases with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis were described. One documented case with clinical feature, laboratory findings, bacterial studies and clinical course was reported. All of the patients had cirrhosis and ascites and they complained of abdominal pain, tenderness, and fever. Diagnosis was established by paracentesis with the finding of an elevated ascitic fluid cell count, and organismus or numerous neutrophiles on gram stein. On ascitic fluid culture Klebsiella was isolated in 3 cases, and Sta. epidermidis in 2 cases. and Sta. aureus in 1 case. Two patients responded to antibiotics therapy. The remainders died of advances liver disease including hepatic coma, hepatorenal syndrome and esophageal variceal hemorrhage. Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis is potentially treatable deteriorated cirrhotic ascites. Because of its ease of diagnosis, prompt recognition requires awareness of this entity.
