Abstract

Three cases of primary carcinoma of the jejunum (PCJ) locating within 80cm oral side from the Treitz's ligament are reported. Two cases were diagnosed preoperatively by endoscopic biopsy, and the remaining case was diagnosed after laparotomy. Partial jejunectomy and lymph nodes dissection were carried out in all cases. Case 1: A 71-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of an epigastric pain and vomiting. Radiographic and endoscopic studies of the jejunum revealed PCJ. The regional lymph nodes metastasis were observed. The patient died of recurrence 14 months after the operation. Case 2: A 34-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of an epigastric pain and vomiting. Radiographic and endoscopic studies of the jejunum revealed PCJ. No regional lymph nodes metastasis was observed. He is doing well without any signs of recurrence as of 4 years after the operation. Case 3: A 64-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of appetite loss and an abdominal mass. Abdominal CT examination revealed the large mass image of 6cm in size at the left upper abdomen. The tentative diagnosis was recurrent sigmoid colon cancer that was resected 2 years and 7 months before. After laparotomy, the large mass was diagnosed as PCJ. The regional lymph nodes metastasis was observed, but he is doing well as of one year after the operation.
