To control the regional lymph node metastasis after initial treatment of gastric cancer, intra_??_ operative radiation therapy (IORT) has been conducted at the hospital from 1985 to 1995. The purpos_??_ of this study is evaluate the effectiveness of the IORT, for that 34 subjects treated by IORT were selecte_??_ at random and 304 patients treated by operation alone during the same period were surved as contro_??_ These patients were classified according to the histological findings, and the two year survival rates wer_??_ compared between both groups. No significant difference in the survivals of patients with stage III, or I_??_ cancer was observed between two groups. IORT did not afford any benefit to control with n2, n3, and n_??_ lymph node metastasis. IORT demonstrated no survival benefit nor improved local control. It is though_??_ that we select external radiation, chemotherapy, and any other adjunctive therapy to control the regiona_??_ lymph node metastasis.
