We investigated cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA) occurred while taking a bath in the elderly in Akita prefecture and 10 cities in Japan. Comparison between high incidence area (Akita·Aomori, incidence ; 3.51) and other 8 cities (incidence ; 2.24) showed monthly difference of the peak of occurrence. The peak of occurrence in high incidence area was on November and in other 8 cities was on December. Neither in the ratio of the youth to the aged, men to women, living together to living alone and drinking to not drinking nor in the scene of occurrence, submergence, the shape of bath showed differences between those two groups. CPA in the elderly people while taking a bath increased when temperature dropped under 10°C. We conclude that the occurrence of CPA while taking a bath is related to the low indoor temperature of the dressing room and bathroom. It is important to enlighten the elderly and their families the necessity of heating in the dressing room and bathroom in winter.
