Eight patients with late recurrence of breast cancer are presented. Their ages at recurrence ranged from 43 to 68 years, and the times between the primary treatment and recurrence ranged from 9 to 25 years. Although two patients who experienced liver metastases died of recurrence, the remaining six patients were alive during a follow-up period from 22 to 79 months, with a median of 52 months. It is concluded that the site and time of the late recurrence of breast cancer were diverse among patients, the survival time after the recurrence depended on the recurrent site, and the control of symptoms with chemotherapy and/or endocrine therapy was of importance.
