Abstract

Gastrointestinal lipomas usually appear as pedunculated or non-pedunculated submucosal tumors, and are relatively easily dignosed by endoscopy and CT due to their specific findings. We report a case of a colonic lipoma which revealed stricture over the entire circumference, so-called apple core sign. A 60-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of ileus. Barium enema revealed stricture over the entire circumference of the colon, “apple core sign”, but a colonoscopy revealed no carcinoma. Abd ominal computed tomography revealed a colon tumor and ileus. For ileus due to the colon tumor, an operation was performed. The tumor was present in the ascending colon and was about 10cm in size. A right hemicolectomy and lymph nodes dissection were performed. Pathologically, the submucosal tumor was diagnosed as lipoma with a diffused growth.
