Abstract

Hepatic angiomyolipoma is a relatively rare entity and there have been only 42 cases including our case in the Japanese literature as far as we could review. The disease is more common in woman, as shown in the male-to-female ratio of 14:28. Their ages ranged from 26 to 69 years, with an average of 49.7. Of these cases, those of multiple hepatic angiomyolipoma are few. This paper presents a case of multiple hepatic angiomyolipoma in which all tumors were simultaneously resected. The patient was 53-year-old woman. One tumor was present in the segment 6, measured 5.5cm in diameter, and the other in the segment 2, measured 2cm. After ultrasonography, abdominal CT scan, magnetic resonance imaging scan, and angiography, angiomyolipoma was diagnosed. The patient underwent a posterior segmentectomy and a partial resection of the segment 2 of the liver. The patient was followed at the clinic for about 1.5 yeares and an increase in size of tumors was revealed. The resected hepatic tumors which were rich in fat were diagnosed with angiomyolipoma. The postoperative course was uneventful and she was discharged from hospital 18 days after the operation. There have been no signs of recurrence, as of 13 months after the operation.
