抄録

Primary carcinoma of the vermiform appendix is very rare, as is early-stage disease. We treated a case of very small carcinoma of the vermiform appendix, determined in preoperative pathological diagnosis and treated by laparoscopic resection. A 64-year-old man referred for occult blood in the stool was found. A colonoscopy revealed to have a small polypoid lesion at the orifice of the vermiform appendix. Pathological diagnosis of biopsy specimen was well differentiated adenocarcinoma. A laparoscopic resection of the vermiform appendix including part of the cecum revealed a semispheric tumor 2.5mm in diameter. Pathological examination showed the tumor to be well differentiated adenocarcinoma and the lesion limited to the mucosa. The patient recovered without complications.
