On obstructing cancer of the large bowel, the decompression of the intestine and recovery of the patients general condition are most important factors before operation. The long intestinal tube is imcomplete to de-compress the intestine and to maintain the quality of preoperative state. We attempted tube cecostomy using a mal-ecot catheter in 14 cases and the results were examined. Tube cecostomy was done in averaging 45 minutes under lumer anesthesia without one under local anesthesia. There were no complications related to the method of decompression. The irrigation with saline averaging 320ml was performed from the day follow-ing cecostory in almost cases. The pericatheter dermatitis was occurred in eight (53.3%) cases and healed by conservative Therapy. Colectomy was conducted 17 days on the average after cecostomy. We found fine irri-gation of the intestine and were able to performed D2 lymph node dissection in them except one non-curative case. The cummulative 5 year survival in these patients was 48.9%. There has been no recurrence at the ce-costomy site in 9-yearfollow-up period at longest. These results suggested that the tube cecostomy using a Malecot catheter for obstructing cancer of the large bowel, especially on the left side, is effective.
