This study was conducted to determine the effect of dietary ME and CP levels on growth performance, body composition and fatty acid synthesis in meattype ducks. Acombination of ME (2.80, 3.00 and 3.20Mcal/kg) and CP (14%, 16% and 18%) in the diets were given to ducks from 15 to 42 days in a 3×3 factorial design. Body weight gain increased as increasing dietary ME and CP contents. Increasing dietary CP content improved feed conversion ratio when ducks given diets containing ME 3.00 and 3.20Mcal/kg. The percentage of abdominal fat weight increased as dietary ME increased and decreased as dietary CP increased. There are positive relationships between abdominal fat and activities of lipogenicrelated enzymes in liver. The activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PDH) and NADP-malate dehydrogenase (NADP-MDH) decresed as inreasing dietary CP level. The activity of G-6-PDH corresponded with 55-90% of NADPMDH activities. This result suggested that NADPH, which are necessary for synthesis of fatty acid, are produced by pentosephosphate pathway as well as pyruvate malate cycle in the liver of ducks.
