Abstract
Core/Shell-granulation precess has been investigated using bottom agitator type mixer in order to control the segregation of fine powders and improve the flowability of irregular shaped composite granules containing fibrous material. Following the mixing of powdery components (matrix and thermosetting resin) with the fiber, the mixture was granulated so as to obtain relatively napped surface of granules (core). The optimum operating condition for the formation of soft powder layer (shell) onto the core granule without damage of napped condition of fiber was discussed on the basis of changes in physical properties of granules and the mechanical strength of the sintered test pieces. The experimental results showed the effectiveness of the formation of network among each granules during the molding operation using the proposed granulation process.
