抄録

The activity of enzymes catalyzing the C1-H4 folate formation and conversion was analyzed in the 5th instar silkworm larvae. Serine hydroxymethyltransferase (EC 2.1. 2.1), 10-formyltetrahydrofolate synthase (EC 6.3. 4.3) and the enzymes catalyzing the conversion between 5, 10-methylenetetrahydropteroylglutamic acid (5, 10-CH2-H4PteGlu), and 10-formyltetrahydropteroylglutamic acid (10-CHO-H4PteGlu), were detected in every organ except the hemolymph. Enzyme activity was high in the fat body and malpighian tubules. With assay methods used in mammals, glutamate formiminotransferase (EC 2.1. 2.5), methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (EC 1.7. 99.5) and methionine synthase (EC 2.1. 1.13) were not detected in the 5th instar larvae. It is thought that the conversion route of 5, 10-CH2-H4PteGlu→5-methyltetrahydropteroylglutamic acid (5-CH3-H4PteGlu)→tetrahydropteroylglutamic acid (H4PteGlu) is absent in the silkworm larva, and the C1-folate might be mainly utilized in the nucleic acid synthesis and intercoversion between serine and glycine. It is concluded from the present study that metabolic route of folate compounds of silkworm larva is different from that of mammals.
