We report a case of superior mesenteric venous thrombosis with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) . with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). On May 26, 2001, a 63-year-old woman, who had been followed up as APS and SLE for 7 years, was referred to our hospital because of severe abdominal pain. Under the diagnosis of acute abdomen, contrast-enhanced CT scan was performed, and superior mesenteric venous thrombosis was observed. An emergent operation was performed and a necrotic segment of the small intestine was resected. A lot of thrombus was detected in the mesenteric vein. Anticoagulation therapy with heparin was administered during and after the operation. Post-operative course was uneventful. It is important to keep in mind superior mesenteric venous thrombosis as a probable differential diagnosis for patients manifesting acute abdomen with APS.
