The time evolution of gas temperature around an arc flame of gravity-free gas arc discharge is measured by means of a parabolic flight of a jet plane. Compared with that in the case of a normal-gravity condition, the gas temperature distribution exhibits almost point symmetry, and the spherical high-temperature region slowly expands at a speed of 0.1–0.2 cm/s. When a normal order of gravity is applied, strong heat convection is immediately established thereby modifying the temperature distribution within 2 s, and a steady-state nonsymmetrical temperature distribution is formed.
