In order to clarify clinical features of male breast cancer, a total of 22 cases of male breast cancer treated at the hospital from 1967 to June 2001 were enrolled in this clinicopathological study. In addition chronological changes of the features were studied.<br>Male breast cancer accounts for as low as 0.53% of all breast cancers, it is common in elderly people with a mean of 63.7±12 years, and commonly appears around the nipple. The most common histological type was solid-tubular carcinoma, followed by scirrhous carcinoma. Histological lymph node metastasis was observed in 45.5% of the subjects. Hormone receptor assay showed a high positive rate, so that endocrine therapy was thought useful. Overall prognosis was poorer than that of women. From the standpoint of chronological changes, with an improvement of diagnostic ability and a spread of knowledge, proportion of early cases has become increase. And recently pectoral muscle preserving mastectomy has been commonly performed like in female cases.
