Cancer therapy with high dose rate ¹⁹²Ir interstitial brachytherapy has been effectively applied to the tongue squamous cell carcinoma of Ti and T2 with NO lesions in the Department of Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hamamatsu University School of Medicine. Based on this favorable result, it was considered possible to apply it to m are advanced cases of tongue carcinoma. In this report, two cases of T4 lesion of tongue carcinoma invading the base of the tongue, in which flexible tubes were inserted into the base of the tongue, were presented.<BR>Tracheotomy was performed before insertion of the tubes. They were inserted into the base of the tongue during endoscopy. To avoid mucosal damage by buttons, they were not used at the base of the tongue. The tubes were inserted to make a loop at the vallecula of the larynx. Buttons were used at the movable part of the tongue.<BR>Although the follow-up period and the number of cases were not sufficient, the high dose rate ¹⁹²Ir interstitial brachytherapy was considered to be useful for treatment of advanced cases of carcinoma of the tongue.
