Abstract
There seems to be a common understanding that scientific observation and discovery precede technological development. Such an understanding is, however, not necessarily correct in that technology sometimes plays essential parts in scientific discoveries and the former often precedes the latter.<BR>This paper presents several historical examples of the integration of natural science and engineering technology. It is expected that, in the future, science will be integrated not only with technology but also with the social sciences and liberal arts in such fields as environmental protection and life sciences for the betterment of human society.
