Abstract
The compression joint system, which connects precast prestressed concrete (PPC) slabs, is developed, and construction project of airport PPC slab pavements with this procedure is reported. First, based on the in situ investigation on existing damaged PPC slab pavements with conventional horn joint systems, the cause of the distress are described, a load transfer mechanism of compression joint system is estimated from results of small scale tests, and then this mechanism is verified through a full scale experimental pavement. Finally, a structural design method of compression joint is established, and the project is summarized.
