抄録

We report a case of ileal Chilaiditi syndrome with strangulated ileus which required surgery. An 80-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of abdominal pain and vomiting. Abdominal X-ray study showed ileus with Chilaiditi's sign. Emergency laparotomy was performed two days after admission with a diagnosis of strangulated ileus. During surgery, a part of the ileum was incarcerated into the right subphrenic space. The incarcerated ileum was reduced but intestinal resection was not required. Chilaiditi syndrome is rarely found in routine X-ray examinations and usually has few complications, however, small intestinal type of the disease often causes ileus and requires laparotomy. Careful attention and further examination should be given to patients with Chilaiditi syndrome, especially with small intestinal type.
