A 66-year-old man was seen at the hospital because of tarry stool, when the Hb level was 10.6g/dl and no bleeding lesion was demonstrated on upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Thereafter anemia progressed and bleeding from the small intestine was confirmed by colonofiberscopy. So laparotomy was performed. A tumor in the small intestine about 30 cm to the terminal ileum was found and partial excision of the small intestine was carried out. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful, but abdominal CT scan disclosed multiple hepatic metastases. Gastric endoscopy showed ulcerative lesion suggestive of metastasis at the pyloric part of the stomach. On histopathological studies, the lesion was positive for human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) on immunostaining, and choriocarcinoma was diagnosed. Blood HCG level was remarkably elevated. According to chemotherapy for choriocarcinoma of the uterine, chemotherapy with methotrexate, actinomycin D, etoposide, and leucovorin was started. After one course of the chemotherapy, the patient died of liver failure.<br>This rare experience with a case of choriocarcinoma of the small intestine is presented, together with a review of the literature.
