抄録

A 66-year-old man was admitted to another hospital because of a left inguinal mass and abdominal pain, and he was referred to our hospital for ileus. Closed examination revealed a left psoas abscess resulting from a carcinoma of the descending colon. The patient underwent an en block resection, including the descending colon, the adjacent muscles of the iliacus and psoas and retroperitoneal fat. The patient required postoperative rehabilitation for eight years, due to muscle weakness and femoral neuropathy. Rare cases of a carcinoma of the descending colon complicated with a psoas abscess reported in Japan, including our case, are reviewed in this paper.
