A 68-year-old woman was seen at the hospital because of a left breast tumor detected at a group examination for breast cancer. When she was first seen, a 3×3 cm hard tumor was palpable in the A area of the left breast, but no regional lymph node swelling or skin lesion was noted. On close exploration, breast cancer was diagnosed and a circular partial mastectomy was carried out. Histological study revealed that, in about 40% of the tumor, micropapillary cancer foci with central lumen which were bounded by fine fibrous stroma had grown, showing findings of invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMP). Although lymphatic invasion was associated, no lymph node metastasis was seen. The tumor was both ER-and PgR-positive. The patient is under treatment with endocrine therapy.<br>Biological characteristics of IMP of the breast have still been unknown, so that further accumulation of clinical cases is expected.
