抄録

We compared the effect of glimepiride on baPWV to that of glibenclamide.Glimepiride therapy was applied to 18 patients (glimepiride group) with type 2 diabetes who had been treated with glibenclamide. Glibenclamide therapy was maintained in 20 diabetics (control group).BMI, blood pressure, pulse rate, HbAic, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, homeostasis assessment model of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), baPWV, and ankle-brachial pressure index (API) were measured at 0, 6, and 12 months. baPWV and API were determined with form PWV/ABI (Colin Medical Technology).No significant differences were found in BMI, blood pressure, pulse rate, HbA1c, lipid parameters, or API between groups throughout observation.A significant reduction was observed in HOMA-IR in the glimepiride group. ba PWV significantly decreased after 12 month in the glimepiride group, while no significant change was seen in the control group.These results suggest that glimepiride reduces baPWV, probably by improving insulin resistance.
