Thirty one cases were found in the lower lip, 8 cases in the tongue and 6 cases in the oral floor.
3. All patients came with swelling of oral mucosa as their chief complaints.
4. Most of the lesions of the lower lip and tongue were less than 5mm in diameter, while most lesions of the floor of the mouth were over 10mm.
5. With regard to the number of days from recognizing symptoms to visiting our hospital, the majority was within 3 months in 26 cases (57.8%), followed by over 6 months in 13 cases (28.9%) in the order mentioned. The shortest period was 14 days, and the longest was 2 years.
6. The rate of recurrence were 20.0% after marsupiaization, and 10.0% after extirpation. Prognosis of most patients was good.
7. Superficial mucocele was nonexistent in this study. Histopathologically, all of the cases were mucoceles as extravasation type These cases were found histopathlogically to be of the three types (Shigematsu et al classification); the type I was 28.9%, the type II was 71.1%, and type III was 0%.
