The data of LIDAR observed from Feb. 1 to Jun. 14 in 2004 and the air pollution data obtained at observatories of different elevation have been applied for the analysis of high concentration cases of oxidant and Kosa
The Kosa was observed in the air mass come flying at various height such as ground -2, 000 m, 3, 000-6, 000 m, and ground -4, 000 m. The SPM (suspended particle matter) concentration observed at different elevation showed good agreement with the LIDAR images.
“The yellow layer” appeared over Toyama plain in the daytime. This layer was formed by dilute Kosa which fallen from high altitude and stayed above the inversion layer exceptionally remained.
When Kosa came flying, LIDAR detected spherical secondary particles consist of air pollution containing oxidant. It can be gathered from the Backward Trajectories that the air mass containing air pollution flew from Kansai- or Kitakyushu region, or from Chinese district.
The case that the remarkable increase of oxidant concentration independent from Kosa was observed June 5. The Backward Trajectories of this case estimated that the oxidant originated from the drift of air mass flown via Kanto area. Such a high concentration oxidant unrelated to Kosa was presumed to be carried by air mass from Kanto-, Chukyo- or Kansai region.
